New updates continue to emerge regarding Sheamus’ WWE departure.

It was first reported on July 5 that the former world champion was leaving the company after nearly 20 years, having signed his first contract in 2006.

After competing in FCW and wrestling dark matches on the main roster, he made his official debut in 2009 on the June 30 edition of ECW.

His appearances were well-received, resulting in him being moved to Raw. At that year’s Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view, he defeated John Cena to become the WWE Champion, 166 days after his debut.

Sheamus went on to become a major champion three more times and won the United States Championship and the tag team titles as well. Not winning the Intercontinental Championship prevented him from becoming a Grand Slam Champion.

The Irish superstar had previously expressed frustration with creative, especially regarding the elusive IC title.

Despite reports of his exit, Fightful Select claimed that the Celtic Warrior was still under a WWE contract, which would be expiring soon.

Apparently, he had signed a five-year deal in 2023, which would have seen him be a part of the main roster till 2028. However, while dealing with his most recent injury and layoff, he was offered a ‘restructured contract’ with less pay. He refused and chose to part ways with the promotion.

Earlier, The New Day duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were offered a similar contract, which they rejected, resulting in their departure on May 2.

Would Ex-WWE Star Use Sheamus Name Going Forward?

At 48 years old, Sheamus’ drive to wrestle has not diminished whatsoever. Only his injury is preventing him from appearing on other brands.

Meanwhile, he also changed his name on his social media accounts, using S. Farrelly, which is a reference to his real name, Stephen Farrelly.

Now, another subject that is gaining traction is whether or not WWE holds the right to Sheamus’ intellectual property.

While the metrics surrounding it are not yet clear, Fightful Select has reported the following:

Regarding the Sheamus name, his real name is Stephen Farrelly. However, he did use “Sheamus O’Shaunessy” outside of WWE for years prior, so it’s not unreasonable to think he could use it in full now. We’re working to get a confirmation on that.

Only time will tell how he gets repackaged under whichever brand he performs next.

Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that the host of the Celtic Warrior Workouts is expected to draw massive interest from rival company AEW, where his former WWE stablemate Claudio Castagnoli, fka Cesaro, is a rostered talent and a member of the Death Riders.
