4-Time World Champion Is Leaving WWE
A top star is done with WWE.
Sheamus made his debut under the WWE umbrella in 2007 and became one of the major superstars in the promotion’s main roster relatively quickly. The Celtic Warrior won 12 titles overall, including four world championships.
Sheamus has remained on the sidelines in 2026 so far due to a shoulder injury, with his last match being a six-person clash on the November 17, 2025, edition of RAW. He teamed up with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to defeat Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Dominik Mysterio.
Amid his absence, a big update has rocked the pro wrestling world. Fightful Select recently reported that Sheamus will part ways with WWE after his contract expires. While a specific expiration date isn’t known, it is happening soon.
Fightful Select mentioned that the Stamford-based promotion approached The Celtic Warrior about a restructured contract during his injury hiatus, but he rejected the offer. According to the report, Sheamus’ deal was set to end within months when WWE held those discussions, so the decision was taken not to release him immediately with a 90-day wait clause.

Backstage reaction to Sheamus’ WWE exit
WWE’s roster has undergone massive changes following WrestleMania 42. Many popular stars have either been released or have decided to part ways with the sports entertainment juggernaut.
As per a recent report, talent backstage are irritated with TKO looking to restructure their deals. Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and now Sheamus are known to have rejected those restructured deals. The Celtic Warrior was seemingly loved very much by fellow wrestlers in WWE.
“But as for the reaction backstage, there’s a lot of irritation surrounding it. WWE stars are not happy with the entire contract restructuring that TKO has been doing. They were very unhappy after New Day’s news became public and it’s safe to say everyone is very annoyed it’s happened with Sheamus. Even though he has not been around backstage a lot recently, the guy’s a much loved wrestler. They really love him a lot and makes no sense to not have him here.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sheamus.
