Top WWE Champion Shockingly Assaulted After SmackDown Goes Off Air

There was a shocking attack after WWE SmackDown went off the air. 

In the main event of WWE SmackDown in Oakland, there was a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way match that saw Finn Balor pick up a big win over Damian Priest, Royce Keys, and the US Champion, Trick Williams.

Late in the match, Priest hit South of Heaven on Trick, but Keys broke up the pin. After Keys hit a huge spinebuster on Priest, he was attacked by Jacob Fatu. That led to Balor finishing off Priest with a Coup de Grace for the win.

Balor’s reward for winning the main event is a SummerSlam match against Sami Zayn, where the winner will earn a shot at the WWE Championship.

Since SmackDown is a two-hour show in the second half of the year, sometimes they do angles after the show. That’s what happened this week.

Trick Williams Attacked By Baron Corbin After WWE SmackDown

After the show, the US Champion Trick Williams was greeting the fans at ringside when Baron Corbin showed up for a cheap attack. Corbin sent Trick into the steel steps at ringside. They went into the ring, where Corbin continued the attack with kicks to the ribs and dropped Trick with a clothesline. Corbin told Trick he was going to take everything. The fans booed Corbin loudly. After Corbin left, Trick challenged Corbin to a match at SummerSlam. Here’s what Trick said:

“Hey look here, you big, bald-headed bum. Maybe where you’re from, it’s okay to sneak a man while they ain’t looking, fight when he don’t know what’s about to happen. But where I’m from, you knuckle up, look a man face to face and fight like a real man. So prove to me that you ain’t scared. Prove to me that you don’t belong in retirement. Prove to me that you ain’t a bitch. And you fight me one on one at SummerSlam.”

Corbin replied while a camera was on him: “SummerSlam. It’s done. And I’m taking that title. You ain’t s**t, Trick. You’re nothing.”

As of this writing, the Williams/Corbin match for the US Title isn’t official at SummerSlam, but it appears to be likely since Williams did the promo about it.

Assuming Williams vs. Corbin for the US Title is taking place at SummerSlam, that would be the 12th match on the show. It had been previously reported that WWE was planning on 12 or 13 matches at SummerSlam, so the card could be complete now, unless another match or two gets added on Monday’s Raw.

WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 1 & 2 from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Here’s the lineup so far:

  • WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor
  • Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match: Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill vs. Chelsea Green vs. Charlotte Flair vs. ???
  • Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Baron Corbin
