WWE Legend Admits Being Part Of “The Worst Storyline Ever Attempted”
A WWE legend has made a huge revelation.
Michael Cole has been with the WWE for several years. He started off as a backstage interviewer and then transitioned into a role at the commentary desk.
Over the years, Michael Cole has been one of the most consistent members of the commentary team. His passion for the business shines through during his commentary, and many of these moments have gone viral after being caught on camera. Cole seems to be having the time of his life nowadays. During the course of his career, Cole has been a part of many storylines. However, one of his first storylines remains forgettable for the WWE legend.
WWE legend Michael Cole recalls a terrible storyline with Jim Ross
During an appearance on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, Michael Cole and Stephanie reflected on his 1999 storyline with Jim Ross, where the latter turned heel. Stephanie McMahon thought the storyline was funny since Cole was supposed to be Jim Ross’ replacement, but the latter brought his own little announce table.
“It was so funny to me when you had come in, there was a lot of, you know, pressure. Everybody was like, is this guy really going to make it? And then JR came in with like, and brought his own little announce table like he came back as a commentator with his own like set and everything. It was so funny to me.”
Without hesitation, Michael Cole called it the worst storyline WWE has ever attempted to do. He said he looked more like a heel than JR.
“I thought it was the worst storyline ever attempted at this company, trying to turn Jim Ross heel. Oh yeah. I just wasn’t, especially with this little 30-year-old 150 lb punk [Cole] with a with a mullet and a a cheesy mustache and wearing skinny jeans with frosted tips in my hair. And they really thought they were going to make Jim Ross a heel. Hey, Jim tried to buy into it. I tried to buy into it. He kicked me in the down low, which he really hit me that night. And that started this whole scene.” [H/T NoDQ.com]
The storyline probably didn’t work out since nobody could buy Jim Ross as a heel since he was one of the most beloved men in the company.
