Ex-WWE Champion: “I’ll Be Back After 10 Long Years”
Former WWE Champion Maryse has announced her return.
The 2-time Divas Champion entered the wrestling business when she tried for Divas Search in 2006. Despite being eliminated from the competition, she earned a developmental contract.
After wrestling in matches for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), she began making regular appearances in 2008 as part of the SmackDown brand.
In mid-September, she started feuding with Michelle McCool for the WWE Divas Championship, which was created a couple of months ago.
After multiple failed attempts to win the title, she succeeded in beating McCool during the December 22 edition of SmackDown with the help of Maria to become the new Divas Champion. She would hold the title for 262 days, losing to Mickie James at the 2009 Night of Champions pay-per-view.
In February 2010, she became the first diva to win the championship twice by beating Gail Kim in the finals of a tournament for the vacated Divas title. She dropped the title to Eve Torres after 49 days.
By mid-2010, her in-ring appearances diminished, forcing WWE to introduce her in a new role as the manager of Ted DiBiase Jr. She also opted to co-host NXT alongside Matt Striker, leading DiBiase to give her an ultimatum to choose between representing him or continuing with NXT. Maryse chose NXT, disbanding their alliance.
After months of inactivity and surgery for an abdominal hernia, she was released from the company in October.
She returned to the promotion in 2016, although she only wrestled in a handful of matches, with more focus on managing her husband, The Miz.
She was last seen on TV during The Miz’s feud with Danhausen, wherein Danhausen cursed her, causing multiple embarrassing mishaps for her.
WWE’s Maryse Announces WrestleCon Appearance
On July 23, Maryse took to Instagram to announce her next public appearance, which would be at WrestleCon in Minneapolis during the SummerSlam weekend.
The former WWE Divas Champion said that she was excited to attend WrestleCon after 10 long years. The 43-year-old further shared that her appearance would be limited to a single day, on Saturday, August 1, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
