The Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk could be making an appearance at a future wrestling event that isn’t Raw or SmackDown.

On WWE SmackDown in Oakland, the WWE Champion CM Punk exchanged words with his good friend and SummerSlam opponent, Cody Rhodes.

During their promo exchange, Cody said Punk is his friend, but he also admitted that he doesn’t like Punk. They went on to bicker for several minutes about their complicated relationship, with Cody making the point that he left WWE and did things that Punk teased doing during his infamous Pipebomb promo in June 2011.

In response, Punk said he followed Cody’s path back to WWE: Cody came back in April 2022 at WrestleMania 38, and Punk came back at Survivor Series in November 2023.

While WWE has yet to confirm the SummerSlam schedule, it’s likely that the Punk-Cody match will headline one of the two SummerSlam nights on either August 1 or August 2.

CM Punk also recently did an interview with Ringside Collectibles, as it was revealed there will be a Straight Edge Society action figure of Punk, which includes the mask he wore during that run. When asked about that, Punk suggested that perhaps he could put the mask on again for an upcoming WWE AAA event in Chicago, which is where Punk lives.

“I think it’s super cool. I think it’s also really timely because our sister promotion AAA is branching out and they’re doing stuff.

“Triplemania is going to be partly in Las Vegas this year. We just announced a show for them at the Allstate Arena. It might be the perfect time for me to kind of dip my toe in the AAA pool.

“I’ve worn a mask before, I’ve gotten my head shaved in a Mask vs Hair match before. We can set the table and we can do it all over again in 2026.

“I think a lot of the lucha fans would appreciate the hell out of that, and we’d sell some masks.” (H/T Wrestletalk)

The WWE/AAA event in Chicago is called Worlds Collide, and it will take place on Saturday, September 26th.

CM Punk Took A Break After WrestleMania 42 Main Event Match

The main event of WrestleMania 42 Sunday saw Roman Reigns beat CM Punk in an incredible match to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. After the match, Punk appeared on Raw following WrestleMania, and then he was off for nearly three months.

CM Punk recently explained that he took that time away from WWE to relax and mourn some recent losses he had suffered.

“You know, I had a… I’m not going to say a rough year, because suffering is relative. I was Heavyweight Champion over on Raw for quite some time, and during that entire time I was champion, I had at least three or four people who were very close to me pass away. And each time, I was at work the next day.”

I didn’t talk about it publicly. I showed up partially because it helped me. Being here amongst my road family and being able to connect with the fans on that level helped me get through it, but there was still some stuff I needed to process.”

The WWE Champion explained that the time off was a way for him to reset.

“So, my time away was just to kind of reset. One day away from my wife is one day too many. I’ve been with her every single day, and now that I’m back, I’m champ, I’m on the road, and I’m as full-time as full-time gets.”

If you’re upset that I was mourning some dead friends, I think that’s a you problem.”
