The John Cena Classic’s WWE Status Revealed

John Cena made a huge announcement earlier this year.

John Cena is widely regarded as the greatest WWE star of all time. During his legendary career, Cena won multiple World Titles and was involved in several huge storylines and matches against some big names.

Last year, Cena’s in-ring career came to an end at Saturday Night’s Main Event when he lost to Gunther. Following this, Cena transitioned into a full-time acting career. However, he made an appearance at WrestleMania 42, where he was the host of the event. He made another appearance at WWE Backlash, where he announced The John Cena Classic. This is an exhibition style even where the champion will be crowned based on fan voting rather than traditional wins and losses. However, since this announcement, WWE has remained silent on the whole idea.

John Cena comments on this special event

During an interview with Extra, John Cena was asked to comment on the John Cena Classic. The Cenation leader replied that they are working towards it and he is very excited about the event. He also said that he wants to do something great for the fans. Cena also said that the event will take place towards the end of 2026.

“What I can tell you is that we’re working towards it, and I cannot tell you how excited I am about it, the event, what it stands for. I want to do something great for WWE, for fans, towards the end of the calendar year.”

Regarding why he has not provided many details about the event, Cena said he wishes to stay loyal to WWE, but he promised to give fans his absolute best.

“Man, I wish I could give you spoilers, but I’ve got to be loyal to my company. What I can tell you is we’re working on it, and I’m going to give you my absolute best.”

The Last Real Champion further said that he’s always going to give his best, especially if the event bears his name.

“If an event is going to wear my name, especially in the WWE realm… I’m always giving my best to WWE, the classic will be no less.” [H/T WrestlingNewsCo]

It will be very interesting to see what the very first John Cena Classic event will look like.
