Tony Khan Interested In Creating New AEW Tournament

Tony Khan is interested in a new addition.

Tony Khan has been in charge of AEW since the company’s inception. He has been responsible for making some major changes to the product over the years.

Tony hasn’t hesitated to hire some of the best wrestlers from all over the world. He has also forged partnerships with several major companies like CMLL and NJPW. He has taken a lot of steps to compete with WWE. Tony has also introduced several championship belts over the years. He also launched the Owen Hart Cup and Continental Classic tournaments, which take place every year. It looks like he could be planning a new tournament.

Tony Khan wants to launch a tag team tournament

While speaking on the AEW Redemption media call, Tony Khan was asked if he would be interested in running a Crockett-Cup style tournament for the men’s and women’s division. The AEW boss said he has been thinking about a tournament featuring tag teams from around the world.

“It’s so cool that you asked that because, yes, I have been thinking a lot about having a big tag team tournament with teams throughout the world of wrestling.”

Tony acknowledged the various partnerships he has forged with other promotions over the years. He also said that AEW has some great tag teams that could take part in the tournament.

“We have a lot of great partner promotions and a lot of great teams we’re building. There are teams featured in AEW, some we’re building up to feature more, and some that haven’t come onto the show at all yet.”

Tony again reiterated that he has considered starting a tournament for tag teams. But he would also like to focus on building and developing more women’s tag teams in AEW and ROH.

“I think that’s a great thought, and it’s something I have considered. I would also like to do it as we continue building and developing more women’s tag teams in AEW and ROH.” [H/T Ringside News]

Tony Khan still has to build his women’s tag team division before he can launch a tag team tournament.
