Ex-WWE Champion From Attitude Era Wrestles For First Time In 4 Years

A former WWE superstar from the Attitude Era stepped back into the ring for one more match. 

The Attitude Era of WWE is remembered fondly by fans who watched regularly from around 1997 until about 2001, when WWE acquired WCW.

While names like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H, Kane, and Chyna are some of the biggest legends of that era, we also can’t forget about the controversial characters like the porn star Val Venis and the pimp known as The Godfather, among others.

Val Venis was portrayed by Sean Morley and had a long WWE run from 1998 until his 2009 release. The first half of his run was a lot more successful than the second half. Venis is a former 2-time Intercontinental Champion, European Champion, and Tag Team Champion.

After retiring as a wrestler in 2022, The Big Valbowski had one more match recently for Independent Stars of Pro Wrestling’s Legends of Wrestling Night in Wildwood, New Jersey on July 23rd. Following his classic Val Venis entrance, the WWE legend lost to Rico Gold, who won with a Spear.

Venis cut a promo after the loss.

“At 55 years of age, I came out of retirement. I’ve wrestled all over the world. I fought eye to eye and toe to toe with some of the greatest performers to ever set foot in this industry. I’m a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

I came here this day thinking I would climb into this ring, look you dead square in the eyes and call this night a cakewalk. You set me up, and you took me down for the one, two, three.

Regardless of whether the people like you or whether those people hate you, that is a win in the victory books that will last forever.”

That was followed by a handshake and hug as a sign of respect.

Val Venis Not Impressed By WWE’s Cody Rhodes

Away from the wrestling world, Val Venis is known for having strong opinions about politics and many other things in his posts on social media.

In June, Venis even took a shot at former 3-time WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

“Donkey Cud Cody Rhodes has a couple of state championships from his high school days. That’s already a better wrestling pedigree than CM Punk had before trying MMA.

But lock “Cud-Chew” Cody in an MMA cage with The Big Valbowski, Val Venis, and the Cody fantasy ends the moment the door closes.”

Wrestling trophies won’t prepare him for surviving a real fight. There is a word for someone like Cud-Chew Cody with confidence weighted far more than his abilities.”
