Cody Rhodes is heading to WWE Payback.
SmackDown in Louisville, Kentucky was an emotional night for WWE as the company paid tribute to both WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk and former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt after the deaths through the week. The show kicked off with a ten-bell salute for both men before an emotional video package played highlighting the very best of Bray Wyatt in and out of the ring.
The night’s action kicked off with Rey Mysterio taking on Grayson Waller in a non-title match. It wasn’t long, however, before former US Champion Austin Theory made his presence felt at ringside but he was quickly nullified by Santos Escobar of the LWO. Rey Mysterio ultimately picked up the win as it was confirmed that he’ll defend his title against Theory at Payback. Also confirmed for the show at this time was a special edition of The Grayson Waller Effect featuring Cody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes celebrated Terry Funk on SmackDown
Cody Rhodes appeared on SmackDown to pay tribute to the late Terry Funk given Funk’s long association and feud with Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes recalled hearing Funk call his dad “an egg-sucking dog” in an airport as well as alluding to something disparaging Funk might have added about his grandmother.
Cody Rhodes then introduced the Terry Funk Memorial Hardcore tag team match which pitted The Street Profits against The Brawling Brutes. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins picked up the win in front of Bobby Lashley as their association with the former WWE Champion continued.
In a recent interview, Rhodes revealed that he is a bit of a control freak.
