Rey Mysterio Defending US Title At WWE Payback

Rey Mysterio will put his championship on the line at Payback.

SmackDown in Louisville, Kentucky was an emotional night for WWE as the company paid tribute to both WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk and former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt after the deaths through the week. The show kicked off with a ten-bell salute for both men before an emotional video package played highlighting the very best of Bray Wyatt in and out of the ring.

The night’s action kicked off with Rey Mysterio taking on Grayson Waller in a non-title match. It wasn’t long, however, before former US Champion Austin Theory made his presence felt at ringside but he was quickly nullified by Santos Escobar of the LWO.

Rey Mysterio was able to pick up the victory and on commentary during the bout, it was revealed that the WWE Hall of Famer will put his title on the line against Austin Theory at Payback on September 2nd.
