WWE Hold Talks Over Big WrestleMania 40 Main Event

Cody Rhodes AEW

Cody Rhodes headlined WrestleMania for the first time ever in 2023 and now a new report has indicated that he could be in for a repeat visit to the main event in 2024.

Cody Rhodes booked his place in the main event of WrestleMania 39 when he returned from injury to win the men’s Royal Rumble match in January. In Los Angeles, CA many expected Rhodes to defeat Roman Reigns to capture the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and finish his story but The Tribal Chief had other ideas.

As has happened many times before, Solo Sikoa made his presence felt during that match as he delivered a vicious spike to Rhodes which allowed Reigns to pin The American Nightmare and march towards as 1,000 days as champion.

WRKD Wrestling has now reported that preliminary discussions have taken place in the company over a WrestleMania 40 main event for the Raw brand that would see Cody Rhodes face Gunther:

“While it’s still early, discussions have taken place for #WWERaw’s main event for WrestleMania 40 to potentially be Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther. Both superstars have expressed interest in working with each other in the past and are seen as the top face and heel on the Raw roster.”

While it is still too early to say how concrete these plans are, the notion that the match could be a main event suggests one of the men would head into the event as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
