WWE Legend’s AEW Move Collapsed After Tony Khan’s One Request
A WWE legend recently recalled contemplating joining AEW, but their plan falling flat due to one Tony Khan.
In an interview with Video Gamer, D-Von Dudley spoke about holding multiple meetings with the AEW President for a producer’s role.
However, Khan was insistent that he saw him more as a wrestler, encouraging him to step back into the squared circle.
Dudley, on his part, kept reiterating that he wanted a backstage role, as his days as an in-ring competitor were behind him.
I expressed to Tony that I didn’t wanna wrestle. He kept trying to push it. I told him I don’t wanna wrestle anymore. And he wasn’t taking no for an answer. He couldn’t get that through his head. I’ve had three meetings with him, and all three were a bust!
D-Von revealed that his meetings with Tony Khan were never productive, resulting in him walking away from AEW completely.
The WWE Hall of Famer also spoke about AEW’s environment not feeling right, claiming that he would not have fit there anyway.
I don’t know if I would’ve felt comfortable in AEW. There’s just certain things about the organization that I don’t like. [H/T: Ringside News]
D-Von Dudley Not Keen On WWE Return
After Saudi Arabia was announced as the host of WrestleMania 43 in 2027, there were reports stating that the future hosts were planning to bring legends back.
The reports said that it could be massive paydays for WWE legends willing to step back in the ring.
D-Von, who has attained a legendary status in the Stamford promotion, confirmed during the Duke Loves Rasslin podcast that he had retired and was not keen about returning.
Look, six figures, or even almost close to seven figures, can make a man do anything. It can make him go back on his word quick. But I just don’t see it. I don’t see WWE doing that. So, therefore, you know, I’m going to leave it at that.
I also feel that we did so well in this match to do it again, or to keep doing it again, is just going to be redundant. I don’t think we should. I think we should leave on this note, and that’s it.
