Tony D’Angelo Learns His NXT Great American Bash Opponent
This week’s edition of WWE NXT had some huge matches lined up, with major implications for the upcoming Premium Live Event, The Great American Bash. The show featured two major number-one contender clashes.
Tonight’s episode kicked off with the return of Fraxiom to the brand. The two-time former NXT Tag Team Champions put on an entertaining opening match tonight to get the crowd excited.
Their bout was followed up by the highly-anticipated clash between Naraku and Mason Rook, with the winner going on to challenge Tony D’Angelo for the NXT Championship at the Great American Bash.
Both stars are looking to make a quick impression on the NXT Universe as they have their sights set on the promotion’s top prize, just weeks after debuting on the brand.
The NXT Championship has its new challenger
This was Naraku’s only second match on black and silver brand while this marked Rook’s first singles clash in WWE. The Japanese star was on the front foot for most of the match tonight, and was able to dominate Rook, who’s much bigger to him in size.
Rook, however, didn’t back down from the challenge and got back in the match at every possible opportunity. He hit a massive powerslam from the top rope to Naraku to pick up the win, but the former IWGP Champion kicked out at the last second.

Mason then had another nearfall after a massive Blue Thunder Bomb on Naraku, before the Japanese came back into the match by delivering a huge slam on Rook. As the match headed to the end, Kam Hendrix made his presence known as well.
He distracted Rook as he came to take Kam out, but this proved too costly for Mason Rook. Naraku caught him in his tracks and hit the Abyss on him to become the number one contender for the NXT Championship.
