Gunther Expected To End WWE Star’s Career, Not Brock Lesnar
Gunther might revive his ‘Career Killer’ moniker after forcing a popular figure in WWE to retire in the coming days.
The Austrian wrestler earned the aforementioned moniker after beating Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles across mid-2025 and early 2026. In the process, he also became the first wrestler to make Cena tap out after over two decades, much to wrestling fans’ dismay.
The progression of his gimmick as one who ends careers came to a brief halt after he was initially speculated to follow suit with Brock Lesnar. However, reportedly, The Beast Incarnate had no interest in feuding with Gunther, choosing Oba Femi instead.
Lesnar and Femi have fought two times, with both securing one victory each. Their third match will take place at WWE SummerSlam in August inside a Hell in a Cell.
Gunther, who was recently moved to SmackDown, was inserted into a world championship feud with Cody Rhodes. Despite securing multiple title shots, the 38-year-old has fallen short of his goal of becoming the face of the brand.
Elsewhere, Wrestling Observer‘s Bryan Alvarez called The Ring General’s booking the “biggest flop of the year.”
Gunther Expected To End Nick Aldis’ Career Next
On the July 10 edition of WWE SmackDown, Gunther’s frustrations reached a boiling point after learning that instead of giving him a title match, general manager Nick Aldis had paired him with Sami Zayn to take on Cody Rhodes and the new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The Austrian blindsided Aldis before launching vicious elbows to his neck. He then proceeded to apply his chokehold multiple times before Cody Rhodes ran down to Aldis’ aid.
Since joining WWE in 2023, the Brit has not wrestled in a single match despite not having called time on his in-ring career.
After spending a couple of months as a backstage producer, Nick Aldis was introduced as the SmackDown GM in October of that year, a position he holds to this date.
During an appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, he had claimed that he would love to lace up his boots again.
Turns out, it could indeed be his time to step inside the squared circle, although no official announcement has been made. Multiple sources have speculated that he could face Gunther at SummerSlam.
Meanwhile, Sam Roberts of Notsam Wrestling predicted that Aldis’ career could end at the hands of The Ring General at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
I think that you do have a situation where Gunther ends Nick Aldis’ in-ring career and there’s no shame in that. [1:00:52 onwards]
