WWE Legend Opens Up On Missed Opportunity To Join AEW
A WWE legend recently discussed a missed opportunity to be featured in AEW.
D-Von Dudley is a 10-time WWE tag team champion, who debuted as part of the Dudley Boyz duo with Bubba Ray Dudley in 1999.
For the next two years, they were involved in a three-way rivalry with Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz.
Known for their hardcore background in ECW, they were often featured in matches involving ladders, tables, and chairs.
One of their most popular matches took place at WrestleMania 2000 in a triangle ladder match, a first for ‘the Grandest Stage of Them All.’
In 2002, after the company split its brands into RAW and SmackDown, the Dudley Boyz split, too, resulting in D-Von having a brief singles career as “Reverend D-Von.”
The duo reunited that same year and were with WWE until 2005 when they were released.
WWE Veteran D-Von Dudley Talks AEW Missed Opportunity
D-Von Dudley recently appeared on the Insight With Chris Val Vliet podcast, where he got candid about his wrestling journey.
During his chat, he also said he had a last match in him, and it would have to be against the Hardys.
He spoke about the missed AEW opportunity, which could have allowed him to reignite the rivalry with Edge & Christian.
If I was to do anything in the ring again, it would have to be with Matt and Jeff. I would say Edge and Christian too, but they’re in the other organization, AEW, and I don’t think that would ever happen. When the opportunity came, when Edge left WWE and went to AEW you had Christian and Edge there, and then the Hardys were there, and it was like we were wondering why Tony, who is a huge fan of the business and always has been, why wouldn’t he take the opportunity to be the one to put those three teams together and to do that? But he never did. So I think that opportunity is lost. But you know, if I was to come back and do something, it would have to be with the Hardys, and those are the only two I trust, even though I think Jeff is out of his damn mind. But those are the only two I would trust for my body on the line, and go in there one more time. [H/T: Insight with Chris Van Vliet]
At the recent Slammiversary pay-per-view, the Hardys captured the TNA tag team championships.
Bubba Ray, who attended the event, challenged Matt and Jeff Hardy for a final match between the Hardy Boyz and Team 3D at Bound for Glory in October.
