Former AEW Star Signs With WWE; Confronts NXT Champion On Debut
The current WWE NXT Champion, Tony D’Angelo, had a busy night tonight on the black-and-silver brand as he dealt with the threat of Naraku.
The Japanese star has been after the NXT Champion ever since he debuted on the show and the two faced each other in a street fight tonight for the NXT Title.
Both men went to extreme ends tonight to leave the show as champion and it was D’Angelo who ended the night with the promotion’s top prize still around his waist.
However, he didn’t get to celebrate his hard-earned win for long as he was almost immediately confronted by a former AEW star.
Former TNA World Champion joins WWE
The NXT General Manager, Robert Stone, had been on the phone with a mysterious figure throughout the show and was heard confirming that the person had signed his WWE contract.
The mysterious figure revealed himself to be former AEW star, Mike Santana. He isn’t a complete unknown to the WWE NXT faithful, given his previous appearances.
Santana had previously appeared on the brand during his time as the TNA World Champion as part of NXT’s working relationship with TNA.
His contract with Total Non-Stop Action expired last week and he chose to sign permanently with WWE. He immediately confronted Tony D’Angelo and set his sights on the NXT Championship.
