John Cena Admits He Went Off-Script During Major Match Before WWE Retirement

John Cena opened up about one of his matches during his WWE retirement tour.

Last year, John Cena went on his WWE retirement tour, which was filled with many memorable moments. Perhaps the most shocking moment of his retirement tour was when he turned heel at WWE Elimination Chamber.

During his final year in the ring, Cena turned back the clock as he competed against some old nemesis from his past. He had matches with CM Punk and Randy Orton. However, the most fun match he had during his retirement tour was against AJ Styles. Both men squared off for the last time at WWE Crown Jewel 2025. Although there was no build-up to the match, both men put on a fun contest. Their match seemed like a beautiful tribute to wrestling. Cena even wrote a beautiful ring introduction for Styles, who was dressed in his TNA gear. During the course of the match, Cena and Styles paid tribute to several WWE stars, such as The Miz, Bray Wyatt, and Shawn Michaels, by performing their signature moves. The crowd got so much into the match that they started calling out moves they wanted to see.

Cena even attempted to hit the Phenomenal One with the RKO. He also tried to go for the 619, but Styles countered into a clothesline. In the end, Cena was able to pick up the win.

John Cena reveals he didn’t plan on attempting the RKO during his match against AJ Styles

During the latest season of WWE Unreal, which covered John Cena’s retirement, the Last Real Champion addressed his match against Styles. Cena said that he wasn’t going to attempt the RKO, but the fans were chanting for it.

“In the match, the crowd started calling moves. I wasn’t gonna RKO him. They were chanting for it, so here we go,” said Cena. [H/T Sportskeeda]

John Cena talked about the moment during his match with AJ Styles when the fans started calling out the names of the move.

He didn’t want to do the 619, so he told AJ to clothesline him instead.

Since retiring from the ring last year, John Cena has made two appearances on WWE TV.
