On the latest WWE Raw taping, Rey Mysterio walked away unscathed after being involved in an awkward spot.

Mysterio’s appearance on the June 8 taping in Paris, France, was heavily marketed, with him challenging for the Intercontinental Championship held by Penta.

Their match began taking shape after a backstage interaction between them a couple of weeks ago. On Monday, the WWE Hall of Famer had the opportunity to become a 3-time Intercontinental Champion, but it was not going to be easy.

Penta has established himself as a fighting champion and has already defended the title successfully against the likes of Dominik Mysterio, El Grande Americano, El Hijo del Vikingo, Je’Von Evans, and Ethan Page.

Before their match, Page issued a warning to whoever came out of the match as the champion, making his intention clear about challenging for the championship in the near future.

Rey Mysterio Escapes Injury During Hurricarana Spot

Over the last couple of years, Rey Mysterio has dealt with serious injuries that have kept him on the shelf for extended periods. The injuries also led to him missing planned matches at WrestleMania and other PLEs.

On Monday, his match against Penta was a highly anticipated one, and it did not fail to deliver.

Both luchadors got their chance in the spotlight, executing their traditional high-flying maneuvers as well as getting close pinfalls.

However, one of the spots involved Rey Mysterio hitting a reverse hurricarana on the champion, which did not go as planned, resulting in Rey landing flush on his head.

The 51-year-old did not show any signs of a serious injury and continued performing.

In the closing minutes, he managed to land a couple of 619s, but when he went for the Frog Splash from the top turnbuckle, Penta put his knees up before hitting his Mexican Destroyer for the victory.

Rey Mysterio Unmasked By Rusev On Raw

Sharing mutual respect between them, Penta and Mysterio appeared cordial after the match, but were soon ambushed by Ethan Page and Rusev.

The Lion of Bulgaria first took Penta out with a Machka Kick before applying his Accolade submission on Rey.

This led to Dragon Lee coming to their aid. While he briefly got the advantage, he was neutralized by Page, who sent him over the barricade.

The heel duo then targeted Mysterio. Rusev then pulled the mask off Mysterio’s face, forcing Penta to cover him and eat the subsequent attacks.

Chad Gable, who was recently revealed to be under the “Original” El Grande Americano’s guise, ran to the ring and dispatched Page and Rusev before they could do more damage.

He then picked up Rey’s mask before handing it over, earning him huge cheers from the Parisian crowd.
