Why Triple H Didn’t Strip Rhea Ripley Of The WWE Women’s Championship
Rhea Ripley remains the WWE Women’s Champion despite being sidelined with an injury, and there may be a reason why.
The Eradicator captured the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania by beating Jade Cargill. Although she continues to hold the title, the 29-year-old has been out of action for several weeks.
After Ripley revealed that she had suffered a knee injury, Adam Pearce announced on SmackDown that she would not be available for SummerSlam. Instead of stripping her of her title, Pearce revealed that a new Interim Women’s Champion will be crowned at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Chelsea Green, Charlotte Flair, and the winner of Guilia vs. Lash Legend will battle for the Interim Women’s Title in a Ladder Match.
WWE Analyst Sam Roberts Gives Possible Explanation For Why Rhea Ripley Remains Champion
During a recent episode of his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts discussed the company’s decision to keep the Women’s Championship on Rhea Ripley despite her injury.
Roberts suggested that WWE possibly not knowing how long The Eradicator would be absent from in-ring action was the reason she was not stripped of her title.
I would imagine that, like, not all injuries are cut and dry. I think that Rhea Ripley became the WWE Women’s Champion because WWE wanted her to be the WWE Women’s Champion. And I would think that if there was an injury, and I don’t know what the injury is. I don’t think any of us know what the injury is, but if they were like, ‘Look, this may be a three-week injury.’ If you listen to commentary, they’re saying Rhea Ripley could be back a lot sooner than we think.
There’s a high likelihood, depending on the injury, that they don’t know when she’s gonna be back. And so, it would be, and I think that the same amount of people would be complaining if they were like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna make Rhea vacate the title.’ And then three weeks later she’s back wrestling. And you’re like, ‘Well, why’d they make her vacate the title then?’ Because they don’t know maybe how long the injury is actually gonna keep Rhea Ripley out. (1:05:02 onwards)
