WWE Forced To Cancel WrestleMania 42 Match

WWE had to cancel a major WrestleMania 42 match due to an injury.

Earlier this year, the WWE Universe saw Gunther feud with WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, and it appeared the two would face each other at the biggest premium live event of the year. However, WWE was forced to pivot in a different direction.

Cory Hays of Bodyslam recently reported that Gunther was originally scheduled to go one-on-one with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. However, the match was canceled due to an injury.

For those unaware, Mysterio is currently recovering from fractured ribs on both his left and right sides. The injury occurred on the January 26 episode of Monday Night Raw during his singles match against Austin Theory.

Despite the fractures, Mysterio traveled to Saudi Arabia and competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble match at the 2026 Royal Rumble on January 31. He has been sidelined ever since.

Gunther Will Face Seth Rollins At WWE WrestleMania 42

With Mysterio out of the picture, WWE had to find a credible opponent for Gunther, and the company chose Seth Rollins. On the March 30 episode of Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden, Rollins returned to the ring after being medically cleared from a rotator cuff injury.

He attempted to attack Paul Heyman, but Gunther appeared and interrupted him. The Ring General put Rollins to sleep with a sleeper hold before pointing at the WrestleMania sign.

Shortly afterward, Adam Pearce officially announced that Gunther and Seth Rollins would face each other at the Showcase of the Immortals this year.

According to reports, Seth Rollins was originally scheduled to face his former ally-turned-enemy, Bron Breakker, at WrestleMania 42. However, Breakker has been sidelined with a sports hernia injury.
