WWE Cannot Make Major Mistake With Oba Femi
Oba Femi is close to earning a career-altering victory on Saturday.
At WWE Night of Champions on June 27, Femi will face Jey Uso in the final of the King of the Ring tournament, with the winner getting to pick a world champion to face at SummerSlam in August.
Since debuting on the main roster, Femi has been a free agent and has performed on both Raw and SmackDown.
While The Ruler looked like he would go all the way in the KOTR tournament, Jey Uso’s victory in the semi-finals against Je’Von Evans has led fans to speculate about a different outcome.
Jey, who reunited with Roman Reigns in the revived Bloodline line-up after WrestleMania, has already made up his mind about challenging Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown. Jey also has the alternative of facing his cousin Roman at SummerSlam.
A couple of weeks ago, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci said during a podcast that Jey challenging The American Nightmare does nothing for no one; instead, if he challenges Reigns, their storyline will have more juice due to their past confrontational relationship.
Elsewhere, ex-WWE head writer Vince Russo believes that Oba Femi losing the King of the Ring tournament would be a mistake that could disrupt his momentum.
Oba Femi Should Win King Of The Ring, According To Vince Russo
Vince Russo was part of a recent The Coach & Bro podcast, where he was asked by Jonathan Coachman about whether WWE would pursue Oba Femi’s ascension or if they would pivot and bring Jey Uso back into the title picture.
In response, Russo said that Femi losing the bout would be a mistake.
Listen, he is…I can’t believe I’m saying this. Aside from Danhausen, he is really the only thing they have going right now. You gotta go with the man. You cannot stop the momentum. You cannot take steps backwards. If he is the hottest thing you got going right now, you gotta go full steam ahead with this guy, Coach. [52:35 onwards]
Russo’s words carry weight, and while he does not spell them out, he warns about the potential repercussions of Oba Femi losing the King of the Ring tournament.
On the June 22 edition of Raw, Oba Femi opened the show in the O2 Arena in London, where he was met by Jey Uso shortly afterward.
Both wrestlers exchanged words, with Femi also taking a shot at Roman Reigns by referencing the OTC. Reigns, meanwhile, is not advertised for Night of Champions.
