WWE Allegedly Recreating Released Star’s Gimmick With Lyra Valkyria

WWE has been accused of using a released star’s gimmick on Lyra Valkyria.

Ever since Lyra Valkyria joined the WWE, she has been a babyface. She was able to get over in NXT and even win the Women’s Championship.

However, she has struggled to get over with the fans ever since she moved up to the main roster. Even becoming the first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion didn’t help her career either. Therefore, she spent the past year being in a tag team with Bayley in hopes that the fans would take a liking to her. Lyra and Bayley were in pursuit of the Women’s Tag Team Titles for some time now. On the 22nd June episode of WWE RAW, after Lyra and Bayley failed to win the titles again, the former turned on the Role Model and brutally assaulted her. This week on WWE RAW, Lyra showed up looking a bit deranged (like Nikki Cross) and confronted her former tag team partner. The segment ended with Lyra attacking Bayley.

Vince Russo opens up about Lyra Valkyria’s new gimmick

Speaking on Behind The Turnbuckle Studios’ The Coach & Bro Show, Jonathan Coachman asked if Lyra Valkyria should be worried that WWE is reusing Nikki Cross’ gimmick with her.

“So if you’re Lyra, and you walk in and you haven’t been used on TV for a long period of time like we’ve talked about, and they say, this is what we want you to do, are you thinking to yourself, ‘oh goody, I get to go out and have TV time, or oh gosh, I’m recreating Nikki Cross.’”

Vince Russo replied that Lyra wasn’t over in her original gimmick. Hence, he suggested that she should try to make this new gimmick her own.

“Well, her original form, she wasn’t over. So, like, if I’m her, I’m lucky and happy there’s a change, but I really need to make it my own. I mean, I really need to somehow figure out how to make it my own.”

Jonathan Coachman pointed out how this feud has only hurt Bayley since WWE used her own feelings against her in Lyra Valkyria’s promo on RAW. He even recalled how WWE didn’t promote her WrestleMania match after she won the Royal Rumble.

“No doubt about it. Man, she delivered her lines so great. And then on the other side, when they do that, I always feel bad for somebody like a Bayley, who, to me, it’s never just about keeping the paycheck coming, Vince. I feel like Bayley for four or five years now. Remember she won the Royal Rumble, and they didn’t even promote her for her WrestleMania match? And she had just won the Royal Rumble. And they put a line in the promo for with Lyra on Monday, that is really how Bayley feels, because she has tweeted about it. She has put it on Instagram. So they’re using her real feelings against her in the promo, and she even brought up the relationship with Mercedes, which is her best friend, which I believe on some level has hurt her over the years, because she refuses to apologize or refuses to hide the fact that they are still best friends, even though they’re in two completely different companies. I think it’s hurt her.”

It looks like the Bayley and Lyra Valkyria feud is just getting started.
