The Undertaker Fondly Remembers Bray Wyatt
The Undertaker believes Bray Wyatt was “Undertaker-esque.”
At the time of his passing on August 24, 2023, Bray Wyatt had become one of the most beloved stars of the modern era. His characters were drenched in the supernatural and the mysterious, but often underpinned by a remarkable human connection with audiences around the world.
Given those supernatural elements, Wyatt was regularly compared to The Undertaker, and the Hall of Famer was known to be a fan of the younger star.
The pair met at WrestleMania 31 in ‘Taker’s first match after the end of The Streak, and the veteran famously “passed the torch” to Wyatt on Raw XXX in January 2023.
While appearing on the Nightcap podcast, Undertaker was asked if there was anyone coming through in WWE that reminded him of himself. He said that while Bray Wyatt was the closest in recent years, there’s always fresh talent breaking through.
“I see a lot of people coming up who have the potential to be stars. Whether their characters are similar to mine or not—it’s tough to say.
I guess the closest within the past few years was obviously Bray Wyatt. Yeah, we lost him, but he was in that category of being Undertaker-esque. I don’t know that anybody else has really honed in there yet, but we have a lot of young talent coming up, and they’ll probably be debuting really soon because of the machine again.”
During an appearance on the same podcast, Undertaker’s long-time on-screen rival, Shawn Michaels, confirmed he’s set to undergo double knee replacement surgery. He also ruled out returning to the ring for one more match.
Bray Wyatt Should Have Beaten The Undertaker’s Streak
On an episode of his podcast in March 2024, The Undertaker said that Bray Wyatt could and perhaps should have been the man to beat “The Streak.” The Deadman said Roman Reigns would have been a prime candidate ahead of Brock Lesnar, but that Wyatt would have been ideal.
Undertaker said the win could have done a lot for Wyatt’s character and elevated him as a star even further.
