The Miz had high praise for Dolph Ziggler following his release from WWE on September 21st.
In the wake of WWE merging with UFC to form TKO Group Holdings under parent company Endeavor, more than 100 employees were let go from their jobs on September 15th. Cuts had long been expected as a result of the merger, with WWE employees “gritting their teeth” as they waited to find out their futures.
It was also reported that talent cuts were expected to take place, and on September 21st, multiple members of both WWE and NXT were released from their contracts. One prominent name among the list was former World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler, who had been with the promotion for almost two decades. A full list of talent released on September 21st can be found here.
The Miz Says One Of His Best Matches Was With Dolph Ziggler
“I consider one of the best matches of my career the Career vs Title match at No Mercy against @heelziggler. Everything leading up to that match was great. Dolph always brought the best out of me every time we worked together. I don’t know if I’ve faced any one person more than him in my career. I’ll miss those times but excited to see what comes next for him.”
The match in question saw Ziggler promise to retire if he was unable to capture the Intercontinental Championship from Miz. Not only was Miz’s wife Maryse at ringside, the bout featured a run-in from members of the Spirit Squad, calling back to Ziggler’s previous identity as Nicky.
