Real Reason WWE Pulled Match From SummerSlam

Trish Stratus Becky Lynch WWE Raw

WWE has left plenty of fans unhappy after planned matches were pulled from SummerSlam.

Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus have been embroiled in a feud ever since Stratus turned on Lynch back in April. The two women faced off at Night of Champions with Stratus picking up the win thanks to Zoey Stark but now it looks like Lynch won’t get her chance at revenge at the biggest party of the summer.

Instead, Stratus will have something of a home-field advantage when the two stars face off again as that match has been postponed until the 14th of August edition of Raw which will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

There were also believed to be plans for Rhea Ripley to defend her Women’s World Championship on the show but that match against Raquel Rodriguez now looks like it won’t be part of SummerSlam either.

Why has WWE cut planned matches from SummerSlam?

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that part of the reason that WWE has cut matches has to do with a time constraint:

“There is a time constraint. I was told that was part of the reason some of these matches that were originally earmarked for the show are off, is because they have a time limit on the show which I guess is three-and-a-half to four hours and they didn’t want to short-change matches basically, as far as time. So that is part of it.”

For the second year in a row, SummerSlam will play host to eight matches with Meltzer also seemingly confirming which of those will open the show.

The full SummerSlam card is as follows –
