WWE SummerSlam Opening Match Confirmed

WWE SummerSlam 2023 Ford Field

It seems one WWE match will be opening SummerSlam for a very good reason.

Logan Paul has been something of a sensation since entering the world of WWE and he will again be competing in the ring in what could be a show-stealing match at SummerSlam against Ricochet.

The two men first crossed paths in a viral moment at the 2023 Royal Rumble before resuming hostilities in the men’s Money In The Bank match in London, England which was ultimately won by Damian Priest. Now a one-on-one match between the two will take place in Ford Field on August 5th and Logan Paul has not been shy about getting personal with his rival.

Why will Logan Paul go on first at WWE SummerSlam?

Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Logan Paul will be going on first at SummerSlam with Ricochet so he can travel to his brother Jake Paul’s fight with Nate Diaz:

“Yeah, he [Logan Paul] is going on first and then flying to Dallas to see the big fight with Nate Diaz, which is starting to get some publicity. They’re on everywhere as far as pay-per-view, ESPN+, DAZN, and regular television pay-per-view. There is a lot of stuff going on that night.”

Given the big night of action on Saturday night, Meltzer also noted that AEW is not conceding the ratings battle for the night with CM Punk headlining Collision in a Real World Title match against Ricky Starks:

“SummerSlam is big, will have a couple of million viewers. SummerSlam and Collision will be interesting, we will see what kind of effect WWE has on Collision, and it’s a big one. But Collision is not throwing in the towel, they are going with the Ricky Starks and Punk match with Ricky Steamboat as the outside enforcer. There is a UFC fight with Cory Sandhagen.”
