More AEW Stars Set To Leave Company
More AEW departures are on the way.
On March 3, it was reported that Rey Fenix had finally left AEW and is now a free agent. The star had made no secret of his desire to leave the company and hadn’t been featured on television since July 2024.
It’s believed that Fenix will now sign with WWE, with Malakai Black and Miro also returning to the sports entertainment giant after leaving AEW.
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Fenix won’t be the last AEW star to leave the company in the near future.
The names we heard were all people not being used at all. Abadon, Zak Knight and Nick Comoroto are the only names known.
It had already been reported that Zak Knight had left AEW, with some fans wondering whether this could be another clue that his sister Saraya will follow suit. The former Women’s World Champion’s contract expires in September, and she’s previously hinted she’d be open to a WWE return.
AEW Boss Tony Khan Changes Stance
Following the departures of Malakai Black, Miro, Ricky Starks, and now Rey Fenix, Tony Khan was asked about his apparent shift in philosophy. In the past, Khan has been reluctant to release stars under contract, but the departures have led fans to wonder whether that stance has now changed.
In response, Khan suggested he’s still operating on a case-by-case basis.
“I do think it’s a case-by-case basis. I think everything is a case-by-case basis, and so much of life is a case-by-case basis. Philosophically, there is a change in what I’ve been doing. It felt like the right thing for the company and everyone involved at this point. That’s the thinking behind that.
Meanwhile, former TNA stars Josh Alexander and Mike Bailey are expected to make their AEW debuts in the coming weeks.
