A former AEW wrestler could become a WWE superstar soon.

In the main event of TNA Slammiversary, former WWE World Champion Nic Nemeth became a 2-time TNA World Champion when he beat Mike Santana with the Danger Zone.

Nemeth’s victory put an end to Santana’s 164-day reign as the TNA World Champion, and it was a result that didn’t surprise a lot of people because of recent Santana news.

It was recently reported by PWInsider’s Mike Johnson that Santana’s TNA contract expired in mid-July, which means it’s only a few weeks away. It has also been reported that WWE is interested in signing Santana to a contract, which doesn’t surprise many people, including TNA’s Matt Hardy.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Santana losing at Slammiversary will likely lead to his TNA departure and a future in WWE.

“That answers that question. Although we already knew the answer. TNA, it appears he’s going to WWE almost for sure. And he should, you know, it’s time, it’s time for him to go. I mean, I don’t know, like I said, like, I don’t know how he will do long term, big picture, but he’s at the stage of his career where he has to try.

You know, he tried AEW, wasn’t for him. Got to try WWE. Maybe it’ll work. You know, there’s no guarantees, but you know, hopefully, hopefully it works out well for him.” (H/T Ringsidenews)

Cody Rhodes Hoping For Backstage Role In WWE

When Mike Santana worked for AEW, he worked with Cody Rhodes, who was an Executive Vice President in AEW for three years before returning to WWE in 2022.

Recently, Cody Rhodes expressed his interest in working behind-the-scenes in WWE as well.

“I’ve always had an interest in it. I had an interest in it when my dad did it, and was a performer. I had an interest in it, had my time away from WWE when I was an executive vice president. And I certainly would be lying to you if I said I don’t have an interest in it.”

For now, the former 3-time Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has made it clear he wants to wrestle for at least five more years whenever he signs his next contract.

“I do think it does take a toll, at a certain point and I don’t think in 10 years I’ll still be going. I think there will be another QB1 of WWE at that point.”

“As far as in-ring competition and I don’t think that’s breaking news to anyone. Turning 41 in a week and I feel the best I’ve ever felt as an athlete, but I do think in 10 years, I will no longer be wrestling bell to bell. No.”

“I think five years would be a, you know… Five years sounds good. Like, if I was to sign a new contract, maybe it would be for five years.”

At Night of Champions in Riyadh this past Saturday, Cody Rhodes lost the WWE Championship to Sami Zayn in a triple threat match that also featured Gunther, so Rhodes will likely be focused on trying to get the gold back.
