Length Of Sami Zayn’s WWE Title Reign Depends On One Major Factor
Sami Zayn shocked the world by capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions, but how long will he hold onto it?
The Last Real Good Guy entered his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Gunther and Cody Rhodes as the underdog. However, he pulled off a stunning upset, pinning The American Nightmare to capture the title.
Despite the historic victory, many, including Dave Meltzer, expect Zayn’s reign to be short-lived. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer claimed that the newly crowned champion was “not the guy,” comparing his reign to Darby Allin in AEW.
The main event was a good match, real good. And, you know, the championship change was a surprise. I mean, it just depends on, you know, I mean, I don’t think that he’s the guy in their plans. It is very similar to Darby Allin in the sense that it’s something that at some point they were going to do. The Darby Allin thing turned out to be a pretty big success the way it was done, and this could be too. You know, I mean, it depends on what the story is.
I don’t see a long reign, but I would hope it’s longer than SummerSlam. You know, I mean, long enough to where it’s not like one of those things where it’s like, well, we finally gave it to him, but we didn’t mean it, you know. [H/T: Ringside News]
Sami Zayn Has Five Weeks To Prove Himself As WWE Champion, Says Analyst
During a recent episode of his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts commented on Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship victory.
The 42-year-old argued that The Last Real Good Guy has five weeks leading to SummerSlam to prove he is a worthy champion. According to Roberts, the length of Zayn’s reign would depend on how he performs during that stretch.
I think that Sami Zayn has five weeks to show the world what WWE looks like with Sami Zayn as the WWE Champion because if the momentum is where it needs to be, this could be transitional and move on to whatever we’re gonna move on to at SummerSlam or this could be something that has some legs because it’s a really really exciting thing that this happened at the end of Night of Champions.
