AEW Star Feels Core Audience Hates Him Due To Physical Attributes

There is one AEW wrestler that thinks the hardcore fans of the company might not like him due to looking like a “WWE guy” so to speak.

Brian Cage is a member of the AEW roster that is known for having one of the most impressive physiques in all of pro wrestling. Sometimes people in wrestling would refer to Cage as a “body guy” due to how muscular he is.

Prior to signing with AEW in 2020, Cage had plenty of experience working for a variety of promotions including Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling where he was the company’s World Champion. While Cage did work for WWE as part of the Florida Championship Wrestling developmental program, he didn’t make it to the main roster when he was under contract to WWE.

During his AEW career, Cage has been part of the Team Taz stable that saw him hold the FTW Championship. Currently, he’s a ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion with Kaun and Toa Liona.

In April, it was reported that Brian Cage re-signed with AEW for a multi-year contract, so he’ll continue to appear regularly in AEW and ROH moving forward.

While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Cage was asked if he felt like he was underappreciated by fans of All Elite Wrestling.

“In certain regards, yes. With our core audience at AEW, I feel they almost hate on me because of all those attributes [size, charisma, mic work, athleticism], I almost feel like that screams WWE. In some regards, it’s almost like anti-me, ‘He doesn’t belong here. He’s too jacked, he does this,’ which are all positives in my book, but it feels like ‘I’m on the wrong team.’

I can toot my own horn and say, they can’t be me, so they’d rather attach on to a Darby Allin or someone they can live more viciously through as opposed to someone like me.”

On Twitter, Brian Cage added more thoughts on his comments by saying he’s just not on television consistently enough.

On last night’s July 7th episode of Rampage, Brian Cage teamed with Big Bill in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament to beat Trent Beretta and Matt Sydal in impressive fashion.
