Tony Khan Claims Airing CM Punk Fight Made Sense

Tony Khan CM Punk

Tony Khan made the controversial decision to air the backstage footage of CM Punk’s fight with Jack Perry at All In but for the AEW boss, it all made perfect sense.

CM Punk reopened old wounds during WrestleMania week as he claimed AEW was not a real business and Tony Khan was not a real boss. CM Punk aired his frustrations from his ill-fated time in the company while giving his side of the story of what happened between himself and Jack Perry at All In which led to Punk getting fired by the company.

AEW responded by having The Young Bucks show the footage of what really happened between CM Punk and Jack Perry on Dynamite. The CCTV footage shows Punk approaching Perry and they exchange words for a few minutes before Punk aims a shot at Perry before trying to get him in a front facelock. Samoa Joe intervenes and pulls Perry away.

CM Punk turns his attention to someone not seen on-screen but widely believed to be Tony Khan and appears to be shouting furiously in their direction before he walks off. AEW coach Chris Hero perhaps speaks for everybody when he can be seen following Punk with his head in his hands at what has just transpired.

Tony Khan Says All In Events Really Affected The Young Bucks

Speaking to Chris Russell, Tony Khan spoke about the decision to air the footage on Dynamite and said it made sense as it played into the upcoming rematch between The Young Bucks and FTR at Dynasty:

Well, I think it made a lot of sense. First of all, FTR/Young Bucks ladder match coming up at AEW Dynasty for the World Tag Team Championships. This is the fourth chapter in FTR vs. The Young Bucks…the last time they wrestled, Young Bucks/FTR III, was at Wembley Stadium, AEW All In. And a lot happened that day.

They were the third match on the pay-per-view and at one point it looked like we were going to have to call them up and they were going to have to wrestle the first match. And then they ended up going on in the spot they were in, but the Young Bucks said, the whole day, everything that happened, it really affected their mental preparation, they weren’t able to pray before the match, they were very stressed out.

They slipped on the banana peel and lost the match but they blame FTR, they blame what happened at Wembley Stadium, and that’s why, in hindsight, thats why they refused to shake FTR’s hand.

Not everyone in AEW agreed with Tony Khan’s decision to show the footage with one report suggesting The Young Bucks were against airing the video.
