Report: WWE Backlash PPV Likely Moving to June 23 in Tacoma, Update on WWE PPV Schedule for 2019

There was a report on Sunday that the June 16 WWE Backlash pay-per-view has been canceled because the date was too close to WWE’s next Saudi Arabia show on June 7th. We wrote about it here in case you missed it.

In an update on the situation, Dave Meltzer explained that there’s a new date for Backlash one week later on June 23rd and the location will be in Tacoma, Washington. Here’s how Meltzer explained it with thanks to Ringside News for the transcript.

“It is not 100% as of this moment that June 7th will be in Saudi Arabia, but they are going with the idea that they will be. It’s a high percentage sure because now they’re making moves.”

“They have not canceled any of the domestic shows that weekend, but Oakland and Stockton have not been canceled. Denver and Salt Lake City which would be the weekend of that pay-per-view have been moved back a week so they’ve been moved. So they have done that.”

“The San Diego pay-per-view, which was Backlash for June 16th, is now a house show. They didn’t want to do it — I guess the idea is they didn’t want to do two pay-per-views in a row… two weekends in a row it would have been June 7th and the 16th so they moved the Backlash to the 23rd and they’re booking it in Tacoma on the 23rd and San Diego is getting a house show (on the 16th).”

Nothing is official yet because WWE has yet to announce the Saudi Arabia event or this new Backlash schedule, but that’s the plan. I guess we can pencil in the next WWE Saudi Arabia show for Friday, June 7th and then Backlash will be over two weeks later on Sunday, June 23rd.

That means the WWE PPV schedule for the rest of the year looks like this:

WWE Money in the Bank – May 19, 2019 – Hartford, CT
“International PPV” – June 7, 2019 – Saudi Arabia
WWE Backlash – June 23, 2019 – Tacoma, WA
WWE Extreme Rules – July 14, 2019 – Philadelphia, PA
WWE SummerSlam – August 11, 2019 – Toronto, ON
WWE Hell in a Cell – September 15, 2019 – Atlanta, GA
WWE Clash of Champions – October 6, 2019 – Sacramento, CA
“International PPV” – November 1, 2019 – Saudi Arabia
WWE Survivor Series – November 24, 2019 – Chicago, IL
WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs – December 15, 2019 – Minneapolis, MN

There’s no word on if WWE will be running another Evolution PPV featuring all women’s matches like last year. As of right now, it is not on the schedule.
