Update On WWE SmackDown Taping Being Cancelled, Alternative Plans
An upcoming SmackDown taping has been canceled, and here’s why.
The September 4 edition of Friday Night SmackDown was originally advertised to take place at Heritage Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, it is no longer going to be held at the venue.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer recently reported that WWE has canceled the SmackDown event that was scheduled for September 4 in Cincinnati. It was reported that the reason behind the cancellation was “logistical and production-related issues.”
Meltzer added that because SmackDown is no longer taking place on September 4, WWE talent and staff will effectively get Labor Day weekend off. However, WWE still needs a SmackDown episode to air on TV. Therefore, they will probably pre-tape the show in advance.
Meltzer noted that WWE is currently considering two options: either recording the September 4 SmackDown after the Cleveland show on the previous Friday (August 28) or recording it after the Birmingham show on the following Monday (September 7).
WWE has not yet decided which location will host the taping.
