Triple H Has Done It; Confirms WWE Match “Years In The Making” For SummerSlam 2026

The WWE CCO, Triple H made a highly anticipated title match official for SummerSlam 2026.

WWE SummerSlam 2026 is just a few weeks away now, and it’s expected to be a huge event featuring major stars. The World Heavyweight Championship match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins as well as the Hell in a Cell match between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi, have already been made official for the show.

Meanwhile, the Undisputed WWE Championship match has been made official by Triple H as well. The title has changed hands two times in the past few weeks, as Sami Zayn won the title at Night of Champions 2026 only to drop it to a returning CM Punk nine days later on RAW last Monday. This week on SmackDown, Punk was confronted by Cody Rhodes.

The American Nightmare challenged CM Punk for an Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2026, and the challenge was accepted. Meanwhile, the match has also been made official by Triple H.

Taking to the X social media platform, The Game officially announced the Punk vs Rhodes match for SummerSlam, stating that it has been years in the making:

Years in the making… and the time is now! CM Punk… Cody Rhodes… for the Undisputed @WWE Championship #SummerSlam! Streaming on the @espn app in the US / @netflix internationally,” Hunter stated.

During this week’s SmackDown, it was also announced that CM Punk and Cody Rhodes will team up for a tag encounter against the team of Gunther and Sami Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event from Madison Square Garden next weekend.

Triple H reportedly allocated the SmackDown roster for CM Punk

According to a recent report by Self Made Pro, CM Punk will be on SmackDown now, and Triple H and his creative team have constructed the blue brand’s roster keeping in mind the roster that fits Punk:

Punk’s going to be on SmackDown. I was told straight up… some of WWE’s roster construction recently in recent months for SmackDown was done with the mentality of, ‘How does this roster fit with CM Punk?’”

The report also said that the likes of Finn Balor, Gunther, and Ricky Saints are on SmackDown because CM Punk likes working with them:

That’s why Finn Balor was moved to SmackDown. Punk is a huge fan of him. That’s why… Ricky Saints are on SmackDown… it’s also why Gunther’s on the show. Punk does like working with Gunther.”

It will be interesting to see how Triple H and CM Punk coordinate to make SmackDown a better show.
