CM Punk’s Immediate Future After Undisputed WWE Championship Win – Reports
CM Punk is back on WWE TV.
Sami Zayn was set to put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Cody Rhodes on the July 6 edition of Monday Night RAW. However, Rhodes was ruled out of action after Gunther’s vicious backstage assault.
A night-long saga ended with CM Punk being revealed as the challenger for Sami Zayn’s gold. After a back-and-forth encounter, The Second City Saint connected with a Helluva Kick on Zayn and followed up with the GTS for the three-count.
Following his Undisputed WWE Title victory, CM Punk will be a SmackDown star going forward and has already been announced for the July 10 episode. Self Made Pro reported that some of the recent roster changes for the blue brand were done to mould it around Punk.
“Punk’s going to be on SmackDown. I was told straight up… some of WWE’s roster construction recently in recent months for SmackDown was done with the mentality of, ‘How does this roster fit with CM Punk?’”
Finn Balor was ‘traded’ to SmackDown earlier this year. Self Made Pro claimed that CM Punk is a “huge fan” of Balor, hence, WWE moved the latter to the Friday night show. Ricky Saints and Gunther were also mentioned as similar cases.
“That’s why Finn Balor was moved to SmackDown. Punk is a huge fan of him. That’s why… Ricky Saints are on SmackDown… it’s also why Gunther’s on the show. Punk does like working with Gunther.”
Big revelation about CM Punk’s WWE SmackDown future
It may look like CM Punk has a lot of backstage control, similar to what he had for AEW Collision. However, Self Made Pro shut down the idea.
“Someone asked me yesterday like, ‘Is it going to be like Collision?’ I don’t think. No, I don’t think it’s gonna be one of those things where Punk’s like, ‘Yo, everybody clear out. I’m booking.’”
The insider stated that CM Punk could have some influence over his own segments and who he feuds with, but not over the entire booking of SmackDown.
“At best, this is going to have fingerprints. Meaning just Punk’s segments will be Punk’s… Like that’s going to be his segment, you know? And he’ll probably pull people into his sphere like, ‘Hey, I want to use this guy, that guy.’ That’s what the Finn Balor thing was. That was him pulling him in, you know? So, you’ll get that, but it’s not going to be a fully booked thing by him.” [H/T: Ringside News]
