AEW Star Reveals Status Amid Contract Expiry Rumors
An AEW superstar recently discussed the status of their contract in the company.
Scorpio Sky signed with the Jacksonville-based wrestling promotion in 2019, where he became the inaugural World Tag Team Champion along with Frankie Kazarian. The duo held the title for 83 days before dropping it to Adam Page and Kenny Omega.
Sky has previously been a 2-time TNT Champion as well. Currently, he serves as the leader of SkyFlight, which also has Darius Martin, Dante Martin, Zayda Steel, and Leila Grey as members while being managed by industry veteran Christopher Daniels.
Over time, Scorpio Sky’s in-ring appearances have declined, something he has spoken about in interviews previously.
While appearing on the Tagging in with Chris Harris podcast, the 43-year-old said that while his situation is not ideal, it could be worse.
It’s really like a mind f, because on the surface it could be a lot worse. You’re sitting at home, getting paid, and there are people that don’t have a place to live. There are people that are struggling and living paycheck to paycheck. They’re working 60 hours a week and they’re barely able to make ends meet.
So when you think about it on that scale it’s like, ‘I can’t complain man.’ But then there’s other days when you’re just like, ‘Man, I grew up dreaming of doing this. I didn’t grow up dreaming of getting paid to not do it.’ It’s hard. That’s the nature of the business.
I think a lot of wrestlers have gone through it, not just myself. There’s a lot of talent in all the companies and you’re never going to get used as often as you’d like to be used. So, you just kind of have to roll with it and try to put yourself in the best situation you can and be ready when your jersey number does get called.
Scorpio Sky Discusses Wrestling Future Amid Rumors Of AEW Contract Expiring
Not long ago, a report by Wrestling Observer claimed that Scorpio Sky’s contract with AEW would be expiring soon.
With limited screen time, Sky finds himself in a predicament about what his future looks like if the current contract is his last with the company.
When asked about his contract situation, the former TNT Champion said that while he has contemplated other options, he is focused on getting through his existing AEW deal.
You know I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I thought about what I’m going to do, and what the future looks like but I really try not to put too much into that right now. I’m focused on finishing this chapter the right way. I have a lot of stories, matches and moments left to be a part of, and I’m excited to step into those moments. So, we’ll let tomorrow handle tomorrow and I’m just going to focus on today. [H/T: Fightful]
