Did WWE ask Sami Zayn to take a 50% pay cut? The truth has finally been revealed.

WWE has been aggressively restructuring the contracts of many of the talents over the past few months. Several wrestlers, like Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Sheamus, were offered significant pay cuts, but they refused and chose to part ways with the company.

It was also revealed that a wrestler had agreed to WWE’s new terms and conditions and accepted a 50% pay cut to stay with the company. It wasn’t mentioned who the star was, but rumors suggested that it was Sami Zayn.

Then, Zayn’s name came up during Kevin Nash’s Kliq This podcast, where it was discussed whether Zayn was given a nine-day Undisputed WWE Championship reign to make up for the 50% pay cut. This has sparked more discussion regarding the matter.

WWE Never Offered Sami Zayn A Pay Cut

Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently shed some light on the situation, revealing the truth behind it. Dave Meltzer revealed that the rumor about Sami Zayn taking a pay cut from WWE is false.

Meltzer noted that WWE offered a new deal with less pay to only those wrestlers who were going to be released because they weren’t being used on TV. That was not the case with Sami Zayn because he was “always used” in storylines.

His name was brought up internally to me but never as 100 percent, and based on what WWE told me directly when it came to pay cuts, their version is that everyone asked were guys who were going to be cut because creative had nothing for them but they would give them a new deal at a decreased rate to see if something popped up.

Zayn was a guy always used, unlike a Ridge Holland, New Day, Sheamus or others who were not being used when asked to take the cut. But this would not be the first, or fifth for that matter, time his name didn’t come up in speculation on that subject.”
