A newly trademarked name has led some people to believe it’s for a WWE newcomer who is well known under another name.

In the main event of WWE NXT on July 21st, Tony D’Angelo retained the NXT Championship against Naraku in a Street Fight.

After the match, D’Angelo posed in the ring with the NXT Title, and that’s when former TNA World Champion Mike Santana arrived. It was the official WWE NXT debut of Santana.

What was interesting about Santana’s debut is that even though he has wrestled in NXT before and he’s well known by wrestling fans, the commentary team didn’t mention Santana by name.

Regarding his name, it’s not yet known if WWE is going to let Santana keep that name the way they did for people like Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace coming from TNA, or if they will change it to something else.

Mike Santana Could Be Cruz Montana in WWE

It has been reported that on  July 24, WWE made a new trademark filing with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for ‘Cruz Montana,’ which has led to speculation that it could be Santana’s WWE name.

The trademark filing description is as follows:

Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.

There is also a possibility that Cruz Montanan could be somebody else on WWE television, but we won’t know until this week’s NXT episode and what name they use for Santana.

Prior to his successful run in TNA, Mike Santana worked for AEW and was in TNA for another run before that.
