WWE Icon John Cena Stuns Everyone With A Personal Confession: “I Had To Gain The Courage”
WWE icon John Cena makes a personal confession about facing his fear.
The 17-time World Champion, who retired from WWE in December 2025, recently had an interview with Extra at San Diego Comic Con, where she discussed his upcoming film, “Matchbox: The Movie.”
John Cena Performed His Own Stunts In His Upcoming Movie
John Cena revealed that he did most of his stunts in the movie on his own. Even though he was genuinely scared to perform them, he pushed himself to find the courage to face his fears.
This one was a lot more facing my genuine fear, just because of the practical action that’s there. It’s kind of got to be me because of the way we shoot it, the way Sam Hargrave does the action.
Stuff that isn’t exactly my favorite, I had to gain the courage to do. Sam Hargrave was a man that I wanted to do it for, because he’s a great human being, and I can say with confidence, I’ll jump off a building for him, because I did that s**t.
John Cena also shared a few details about his movie character during the interview:
“I can tell you that the major struggle in his life is being drawn between his professional obligation and his loving connections. I think that’s something that a lot of us go through, do I put more in at work, or do I put more in personal connections?”
Matchbox: The Movie is an upcoming action-comedy film based on the toy brand Matchbox by Mattel, set to be released in the United States on Apple TV on October 9, 2026.
It is directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall, and stars John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris.
