WWE Has No Interest In Working With Controversial Star
According to the latest report, WWE doesn’t seem to be interested in working with a popular, controversial star. The star in conversation is Cain Velasquez.
Cain Velasquez is known for his time in UFC, where he defeated Brock Lesnar to capture the heavyweight title years ago. The MMA veteran also made his WWE debut back in 2019. Cain squared off against Lesnar in a pro wrestling match at Crown Jewel 2019, in which he was defeated within two minutes. He was released from the company in 2020 as well. Velasquez has also competed in a few matches in the Mexican wrestling promotion, Lucha Libre AAA, from 2019 to 2022.
Last year, Cain Velasquez was sentenced to prison on the charges of attempted murder. After serving prison for nearly a year, Velasquez was released earlier this year. Following his release, Velasquez shared an emotional message for his fans through social media, thanking them for their immense support.
WWE is not interested in working with Cain Velasquez again
It was announced last year that WWE is acquiring the Lucha Libre AAA promotion. As Cain Velasquez is a major name in Mexico, fans wondered whether he would be brought back by the Stamford-based promotion to compete in AAA.
However, the latest report from Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio provided a negative update regarding Cain Velasquez potentially working with WWE. Meltzer noted that Cain would be wrestling in Lucha Libre AAA if it were not bought by the WWE:
If WWE had not bought AAA, he would already be wrestling for AAA.”
Meltzer further noted that WWE doesn’t want Cain Velasquez for their goals despite the AAA executives, Dorian Roldan, Konnan, and More being high on him:
They didn’t leave on the best of terms. I don’t think WWE really wants him in the sense of what their goals are. Their goals aren’t like, let’s bring in a Mexican celebrity. The AAA people, Dorian Roldan, Konnan, those people that were involved, they love Cain Velasquez.”
Meltzer concluded that Cain Velasquez would’ve been brought in to Lucha Libre AAA if it were still Dorian Roldan’s company, and not under WWE’s ownership:
I was pretty much told that if it was Dorian’s company, then they would have definitely brought Cain in for big shows because that’s how much they think of him.” [H/T f4wonline.com]
Dave Meltzer says Cain Velasquez would likely already be back in AAA if WWE hadn’t purchased the company. According to Meltzer, people like Dorian Roldan and Konnan are big supporters of Cain, but WWE reportedly has little interest in bringing him in.

Cain Velasquez last competed in AAA back in 2022, and only time will tell if he will ever return to the pro wrestling ring.
