Sami Zayn could be part of a long-term story that fans are going to enjoy, according to WWE’s Michael Cole.

The WWE Title has changed hands twice over the last month. Sami Zayn finally became WWE Champion for the first time at Night of Champions on June 27th.

While there was a lot of excitement about Zayn’s win, the celebration didn’t last long because Zayn lost the WWE Championship to CM Punk on the July 6th edition of Raw in Chicago.

That night was supposed to be a Zayn title defense against Cody Rhodes, but Rhodes was attacked by Gunther, and Punk was the surprise replacement who ended up as the WWE Champion in what was Punk’s first match in three months.

Following his WWE Title loss, Sami Zayn went on a rant for WWE cameras, saying things that many fans may have been feeling.

“How is it that after 24 years of crawling and inching for every little inch to get the WWE Championship, after I finally get it, NINE DAYS AFTER I GET! That piece of sh*t can walk back in here, after not being here for months, for months, and walks right in and gets it? That motherf*cker. He has no business, no business!”

On the SmackDown after the WWE Title match, Zayn wasn’t even on the show, while Punk agreed to defend the WWE Title against Rhodes at SummerSlam, even though Zayn is the former champion.

WWE Has A Long-Term Storyline For Sami Zayn

Michael Cole has been a WWE announcer for 30 years, so he’s seen it all in terms of storylines. While Cole isn’t part of the creative team as far as we know, he likely knows about some upcoming stories because it’s part of his job as an announcer to try to advance stories in WWE.

During an interview on the Sal Licata Show, Michael Cole suggested that WWE fans be patient when it comes to Sami Zayn because there appears to be a long term story for the former WWE Champion.

“I always ask our viewers to have patience, because there’s a long-term story arc with Sami that’s going to be playing out now over the fact he lost his championship.

We always ask our viewers to be patient, because we are going to get there. We do 52 weeks of television for Raw and SmackDown every single year, so sometimes storylines might not progress as fast as the audience wants them to.

Listen, audiences can have all the views they want, we can’t do this without them. Be critical about it, voice your opinions about it, but I really think people are going to enjoy where this Sami Zayn story’s gonna go over the next couple of months.”

Sami Zayn will get a chance for revenge against CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18th when they are featured in the tag team main event. Here’s the lineup:
