Ex-WWE Star Pens Emotional Message After Release From Jail
A former WWE star and mixed martial artist has been released from prison.
In February 2022, Cain Velasquez was arrested by the police after being involved in a high-speed car chase that ended with him shooting at a man named Harry Goularte, who had been charged with molesting Velasquez’s son.
However, he ended up shooting the man’s stepfather, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
While Velasquez pleaded no contest to felony attempted murder, assault, and multiple weapons-related charges in August 2024, he was sentenced to five years in the Santa Clara County Jail.
Cain Velasquez was signed with WWE between October 2019 and April 2020, during which he was involved in a feud with Brock Lesnar.
The two wrestlers competed at the 2019 Crown Jewel event, which Lesnar won. Following his victory, Lesnar attacked Velasquez, who was saved by Rey Mysterio.
Velasquez was scheduled for an appearance at the WWE Royal Rumble event the following year, but it was scrapped. He was released from the company as part of the COVID-19 budget cuts in 2020.
Ex-WWE Star Releases Statement After Prison Release
After serving his prison sentence, Cain Velasquez was released in February.
The 43-year-old took to Instagram to issue a statement, where he thanked his fans for their support.
Hi everyone. Now that it’s been a couple weeks since my release, I’ve had some time to kind of get back into things and get back into a normal way of life and get used to doing the normal things, being there for my family and my kids.
I just wanted to thank everybody for their love and support. Your words of inspiration and encouragement constantly lifted me up, myself and my family. I just wanted to take this time to thank everybody for the constant support. You have no idea what your words, encouragement, and love has meant to me and my family. Thank you, I’ll keep doing the work to get back to everyone.
For myself now, slowly get back out there without — I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with the pace of life that I was getting used to, to now all of the sudden a new way of life, a new way of living, a new rhythm. For myself, I just had to kind of get used to it and I’ve been doing that. Again, thank everyone and it’s good to be out.
His competition status currently remains unknown as to whether he will return to MMA or WWE.
