A new report has shed more light on Kenny Omega returning to NJPW to face Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom in January 2023.
Kenny Omega – along with The Young Bucks – made his hotly anticipated return to AEW screens at Full Gear with The Elite challenging Death Triangle for the Trios Championship. Rey Fenix finally caved into Pac’s wishes and used the hammer to bludgeon Omega and pick up the win for the champions. A best-of-seven series has since been announced between the teams that could run into January for the title.
However, Omega’s focus is also elsewhere after it was announced at NJPW’s Historic X-Over event with STARDOM that the former AEW World Champion will return to New Japan Pro Wrestling to take on Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th, 2023 inside the Tokyo Dome.
A new report from Fightful Select has noted that talks began over the summer about a showdown between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay in NJPW. Rocky Romero is credited as being a key conduit to the deal happening and is reported to be in frequent contact with AEW CEO Tony Khan.
It was also noted that the suspension Omega served following his part in the alleged backstage fight at All Out in early September slowed talks down but obviously didn’t kill them completely.
