Sheamus recently parted ways with the WWE.

Sheamus was part of the WWE roster for several years. He started in ECW, and it didn’t take long for him to win the WWE Championship from John Cena. Over the course of his career, Sheamus won several World Titles with the sports entertainment juggernaut.

The Celtic Warrior had accomplished pretty much everything there was to do with the Stamford-based promotion. It was recently reported that WWE had tried to restructure Sheamus’ contract, which would’ve resulted in him taking a pay cut. The Celtic Warrior turned down the contract extension, which resulted in WWE canceling his contract.

Eric Bischoff has opened up about Sheamus’ WWE departure

During a recent edition of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff reacted to Sheamus’ WWE exit. The Hall of Famer said that the Celtic Warrior became baggage for the sports entertainment juggernaut since he wasn’t a big draw anymore.

“Every business. Every business. I don’t care how good of a salesman you were when you were in your 30s. If you’re 50 and you’re not turning paper, guess what, dude? You’re baggage. It’s just the circle of freaking life.”

When Conrad Thompson asked him what could be next for the Celtic Warrior, Eric Bischoff responded that he doesn’t know Sheamus well enough to predict his next move. However, he speculated that someone like the Irishman isn’t motivated by money.

“I don’t know him well enough to predict that at all….but 19 years with WWE, been a world champion, covered some ground, made some money. If money is not a driver for him, and I suspect it might not be after 19 years, if money isn’t the driver… it’s about the performance. It’s about being out there in front of a crowd and getting that energy and getting that shot of adrenaline that you can’t get anywhere else.”

Bischoff further added that the Celtic Warrior has competed in front of large crowds. Hence, he won’t get the same thrill from competing in front of small audiences.

“For someone like Sheamus who’s been in front of 20,000 and 30,000 or 40,000 or 50,000 people, wrestling in front of 1,200 people is just not that big a thrill.”

Eric Bischoff said that if he were in Sheamus’ shoes, then he would leverage his success in WWE and try to work with people he’s interested in working down in AAA or even AEW.

“I would leverage that success and I would pick and choose my shots. If I got a big shot down in AAA and it sounded like fun and I got a chance to work with somebody that I never worked with before or somebody that I had worked with before but I want to work with again and that opportunity was available to me in AAA or if it was available to me as a one-off in AEW or even New Japan, take it, have fun, come home with a bag of money, have a great time and some memories and wait for the next one.” [H/T Ringside News]

It will be interesting to see what’s next for Sheamus.
