Massive Backstage Revelation After Sami Zayn Drops The WWE Title To CM Punk On RAW
Sami Zayn dropped the Undisputed WWE Championship to CM Punk on WWE Raw.
Zayn accomplished his decade-long dream of becoming a world champion in WWE at Night of Champions. However, his world title reign didn’t last long.
On the July 6 edition of Monday Night Raw, The Underdog from the Underground was advertised to put his title on the line against former champion Cody Rhodes. However, earlier in the night, The American Nightmare was brutally attacked by Gunther and, therefore, ruled out by the doctors from competing.
Sami Zayn still wasn’t pulled from the match card and was booked against a mystery opponent. The mystery opponent turned out to be CM Punk, who returned to WWE Raw for the first time since the Raw after WrestleMania 42.
Punk emerged victorious in his hometown and went home to his wife, AJ Lee, with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt in his hands. Sami Zayn winning the title and losing it only nine days later on Raw to Punk felt like hasty booking. However, that’s not the case.
WWE Had Been Planning To Crown CM Punk World Champion All Along
According to Sean Ross Sapp on the post-RAW show, all of this was pre-planned and well thought out for a long time. Sapp reported that WWE had already decided that Sami Zayn would lose his title to Punk when The Second City Saint returned to television.
Well, this was the plan all throughout that. Like they knew that they were leading to this. They always knew that Sami Zayn was going to drop this title to CM Punk because they have known when CM Punk was going to come back for a while.”
CM Punk is heading to SummerSlam as the new Undisputed WWE Champion. It’d be interesting to see who’ll be the first to challenge him for the title.
