WWE pulled a big shocker earlier this week when they crowned CM Punk as the new Undisputed WWE Champion. The company is planning another big move for Punk, i.e., to turn him heel.

After being away from TV since April, The Second City Saint returned on last Monday’s episode of Raw. He was revealed as Sami Zayn’s mystery opponent for the Undisputed WWE Championship after Zayn’s scheduled opponent for the night, Cody Rhodes, was attacked by Gunther and ruled out of action.

Punk faced Sami in front of his hometown crowd in Chicago and walked away as the new champion. Following Punk’s victory on Monday Night Raw, it was announced that he is set to return to SmackDown this Friday.

Earlier reports had already suggested that WWE would move CM Punk to SmackDown following his return, given that Jacob Fatu was moved to Raw to feud with Roman Reigns.

WWE’s Big Plans for CM Punk’s Arrival on SmackDown

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, WWE might be planning to turn CM Punk heel upon his arrival on SmackDown. WWE could potentially tell the story of Punk becoming a “hypocrite,” someone he has always hated and criticized.

Punk always took pride in showing up for the company and putting in the work. However, over the last few months, he was absent, and then he simply returned and received a title shot against Sami Zayn. This is the kind of thing the old CM Punk hated and called out many times in WWE. Now, he is doing the same himself.

Cody’s a babyface. Sami [Zayn] is gonna end up being Daniel Bryan here. I think we may finally get that CM Punk heel turn because the story here is basically he’s a hypocrite. He’s everything that he complained about. Remember that promo he did, where he goes, ‘I’m always here,’ you know, unlike these Roman Reigns…

Then he went home in April, disappeared until July 6th, and then waltzed in and took that belt, and obviously this is all storyline, but like in storyline he’s everything that he’s complained about for decades, you know, these guys, that just, you know, older guys coming in, taking stuff, not working, I mean, that’s that’s what happened here. So he’s going to SmackDown, I think he might be [turning heel].”
