WWE is set to introduce a new title.

At WWE Backlash 2026, John Cena made an appearance to announce a new event called the John Cena Classic. This tournament will be a yearly event and will see NXT stars compete against some of the main roster talent in exhibition matches.

Cena even announced a new Championship belt. This event will be different from other events in that the champion won’t be determined based on wins and losses. Instead, the fans will get to vote for who should be the champion. Since the announcement was made, WWE has not made much progress in announcing the date of the tournament. However, it looks like the company is working on the new championship.

WWE has been working on the design of the new championship

According to a recent report by Sportskeeda Wrestling, sources within WWE have confirmed that the promotion has been working on the design of the new championship and Triple H himself is involved in the design process. However, nothing regarding the John Cena Classic has been finalized yet.

“WWE has been working on the design of the new championship. There is work on it, and Triple H himself was involved. Nothing about the John Cena Classic has been completely finalized yet.”

It is also reported that the focus will shift towards the John Cena Classic after SummerSlam. Some people in the company think that the fan voting is a bad idea, while others feel that this will get the audience more involved. There is also hope that this will make the fans happier with the overall product since they get to push the star they want. Cena is also reportedly ready to appear and promote the tournament when needed.

“There are more plans set to emerge after SummerSlam is done, with the focus finally shifting there. Some announcements may be made. The idea of fan voting is something that they are hoping will involve fans further, even though a small vocal minority within the company thinks it’s a bad idea, as it will put everyone at the mercy of momentary movements by fans. On the other hand, others are hoping that with fans getting an outlet to push the star they feel should win in this tournament, they will be happier with the WWE product overall, and there will be less criticism of who is booked in the world title picture.
