Unfortunate Update On Kenny Omega’s Relationship With AEW
The latest report provided an update regarding the former AEW World Champion, Kenny Omega’s relationship with Tony Khan’s promotion.
Following his memorable run in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Kenny Omega was one of the first stars to be signed by AEW during the company’s inception in 2019. He has been a cornerstone of Tony Khan’s promotion and is also a former World Champion. However, since his return from a career-threatening medical condition last year, many fans have felt that Omega’s run has been underwhelming.
In 2026, Kenny Omega had some interesting feuds with Swerve Strickland and MJF. Since he failed to capture the AEW World title from MJF at Dynasty 2026 last month, The Cleaner has been out of action. Many fans wanted to see the feud between Kenny and Swerve Strickland continue after their two amazing TV matches on Dynamite.
Kenny Omega and AEW allegedly have not been on the same page creatively
During the recent Self Made Sessions, Self Made pro reported that he was told by multiple sources that Kenny Omega and AEW have creatively not been on the same page this year, so Omega was on a different tangent with All Elite Wrestling at different times this year:
What I can tell you is that I was told outright by a couple of different sources now within AEW that he and AEW creatively have not always been on the same page this year. So the bottom line is, he wasn’t really on the same page with AEW at different points this year.”
Self Made pro also reported that the storyline between Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland was supposed to continue after their two matches on Dynamite, but it’s apparently paused for now. It’s also reported that either the feud is paused or has been abandoned overall, despite the alleged plans of it continuing:
And I do know that the Kenny Omega–Swerve program was supposed to continue, and at the moment it’s clearly paused. It’s either paused or outright just not—you know—dead in the water. But I do know that at one point it was supposed to continue.” [H/T Ringside News]
Speaking of Swerve Strickland, he last competed in a match against Kenny Omega on Dynamite in March. He has not been on TV for weeks either. It remains to be seen when both Omega and Swerve will be back on TV and if they will continue their feud.
