Result Of CM Punk Vs. Gunther For The Undisputed WWE Championship

The current Undisputed WWE Champion, CM Punk defended his title against Gunther at a recent show before SummerSlam.

CM Punk made his return on the 7/6 episode of RAW in his hometown, Chicago, after more than two months of hiatus. Right after his blockbuster return, Punk defeated Sami Zayn to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Second City Saint is also slated to defend his title against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2026.

Before his big match at SummerSlam, CM Punk put his Undisputed WWE title on the line against Gunther at the recent SummerTour live event at Allentown, Pennsylvania. At the end of the main event encounter, Punk managed to successfully retain his title by defeating The Ring General. It was the first Undisputed title defense for the Best in the World since becoming champion nearly two weeks ago.

At the same live event on the 16th of July, Oba Femi beat Dominik Mysterio, Danhausen defeated The Miz, and Penta retained his Intercontinental title by defeating Ethan Page in other major matches. The WWE Tag Team Championship was also defended on the show, in which R-Truth and Damian Priest retained against The War Raiders.

WWE Hall of Famer was “blown away” with a major CM Punk announcement

The WWE Hall of Famer, Mark Henry recently revealed his reaction to the announcement of CM Punk vs Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship at SummerSlam 2026. The match was made after Punk accepted Cody’s challenge on SmackDown last Friday.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry disclosed that he was blown away when the match between Punk and Cody was made for SummerSlam:

Cody also said ‘I don’t know when,’ then Punk – without any thought process, without any considering who’s in line for it – said ‘When? Say less.’ That match was made right then.”

I was blown away, because I did think, just like Cody did, that if they ever had a situation where two dominant personalities and talents like those two guys, that the match would end up probably at WrestleMania.”

Henry also revealed that he thought the match would take place at next year’s SummerSlam:

It would probably be the headliner for Royal Rumble. It would probably be the headlining match for SummerSlam; I was thinking next year’s SummerSlam, but hey, there’s no time like the present.”

It will be interesting to see if Punk manages to defeat Cody at SummerSlam to retain his title.
